GreenWood Global assisting the Caribbean Climate Hub’s Wood Salvage Project

Assessment of downed trees and debris after hurricanes Irma and Maria

(April 2018), San Juan, Puerto Rico — In April 2018, GreenWood Global assisted the USDA Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry and the USDA Caribbean Climate Hub in an assessment to salvage wood in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria which hit Puerto Rico in September 2017.

Building capacity to make the best use of hurricane downed trees and other vegetative debris will reduce vulnerability and increase resilience in the face of future storm events. The Caribbean Climate Hub is continuing efforts to promote the development of a sustainable wood product industry in Puerto Rico.
